April 8th – 12th was National Boys & Girls Club Week. The Boys & Girls Club of Fauquier celebrated each day of the week with different themed days and activities to match! As part of the “Out-of-School Time” day, Aimee O’Grady of Allegro Community School of the Arts led the kids in a creative writing workshop. She brought in a “mysterious ancient object found in her yard” and the kids were tasked with writing their own story of what the object was and how it arrived there. They came up with wild theories while learning creative writing skills!
On “Education and Career Readiness” day, three of our Board members came to speak with the kids about their careers and success. John Nettles and Mike Grammo spoke with our TORCH Club members on how to be great leaders within our own community. Jim Spedden of The Fauquier Bank educated them on the importance of checking and savings accounts.
As part of our “Health and Wellness” day, Lenah with 4H shared the “Goods in the Woods” presentation to help the kids learn a little bit about forests and their importance to society. 4H also donated dogwood trees for us to plant at Camp Camilla Tree Farm, which our older kids planted in late May.
This week was packed with so many fun and educational opportunities! We are so thankful for the willingness of community members to share their time and talents with the Club kids – you inspire, educate and put smiles on many faces!
