Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a nurturing safe haven where youth can
develop into confident, responsible and productive
citizens through citizen & leadership development,
social recreation, personal & educational development,
cultural enrichment, health & physical education,
outdoor & environmental education, and family
involvement.
Purpose of the Run/Walk
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Fauquier was founded in 1994
in order to provide a safe and nurturing environment for
young people in the community on a daily basis. By
2005, the Boys and Girls Club had outgrown its facility
at Taylor Middle School, turning down 200-300 young
people each year. In addition, the club was only
available on days the school was open – this excluded
snow days, holidays, and Saturdays, leaving many young
people in the community without a safe and nurturing
environment each week. In order to facilitate the
growth of the club and the need for a facility on
holidays, snow days, and Saturday, the club decided to
purchase a new building. On December 1, 2009, the club
opened the doors of its new facility located at 169
Keith Street.
Now, all that remains is to
continue raising the $3,000,000 to pay for the building
that will be a positive place where young people (ages
6-18) are able to gather each day with adult guidance
and supervision. We also have a location in the
Southern end of the county at Cedar Lee Middle School,
which is open after school during the regular school
year.
About Our Programs
The Boys and Girls Clubs of America have a line-up of tested and
proven nationally recognized programs that address the
most contemporary issues of the day. Programs teaching
young people the skills they need to succeed in life.
Some
of these are programs concerning education (study hall and tutors),
health, the environment, the arts, careers (how to apply
for a job, how to write resume), alcohol and drug
prevention (visits from local law enforcement and visit
to the jail), pregnancy and gang prevention and all
kinds of athletics.
We are working hard to help youth of all backgrounds,
with special concern for those from disadvantaged
circumstances. An increasing number of girls and boys
are spending many hours alone at home with no adult
supervision. Young people need responsible guidance,
they need to know someone cares about them and have
capable adults to whom they can turn.
